Correction of the prominent ear with cartilage abrasion and concha-mastoid sutures.

چکیده
T he pathologic genesis of the protruding ear is a combination of the antihelix's failure to fold and some form of conchal protrusion, in which either the whole ear is tilted laterally or conchal hypertrophy exists. The corrective procedure should address both of these factors. I use a combination of techniques, including lateral cartilage surface abrasion, as originally described by Sten Stenstrom, MD, and posterior sutures, as described by John Mustarde, MD, to create the antihelix.

Reconstruction of Moderately Constricted Ears by Combining V-Y Advancement of Helical Root, Conchal Cartilage Graft, and Mastoid Hitch
OBJECTIVE Despite the multitude of corrective procedures described in the literature, adequate surgical correction of the congenital constricted ear remains a challenge. The maintenance of the shape and size of the reconstructed upper neohelix poses a particular problem. METHODS In the present study, a total of 12 cases of reconstruction were undertaken. All of them were moderate (type IIA Ta...
متن کاملThe postauricular fascial flap as an adjunct to Mustardé and Furnas type otoplasty.
Anterior riberation methods of otoplasty have been criticized because of the risk of anterior hematoma that can cause anterior skin necrosis, scarring, and even cartilage destruction caused by infection. As a result, cartilage-sparing otoplasty such as the Mustardé and Furnas types has been increasingly popular. However, postauricular suture extrusion may result, and recurrence rates of up to 2...
متن کاملElevation of a constructed auricle using the anteriorly based mastoid fascial flap.
Two-stage methods for reconstruction of congenital microtia have been widely utilised. To obtain a desirable auriculocephalic angle and provide a nutrient support to the constructed auricle, elevation of reconstructed ears using a costal cartilage graft, the anteriorly based mastoid fascial flap transfer and a skin graft was performed as the second operation for nine microtia patients. In this ...
متن کاملSurgical correction of cryptotia with superiorly based superficial mastoid fascia and skin paddle.
An approach for the correction of cryptotia using a superiorly based superficial mastoid fascial flap and a skin paddle is introduced. The buried portion of the auricle was exposed through an incision made along the upper part of the helix, followed by an appropriate correction of the deformed cartilage. Protrusion of the upper portion of the auricle was accomplished using anchoring sutures. A ...
متن کاملInjectable Cartilage Shaving: An Autologous and Long Lasting Filler Material for Correction of Minor Contour Deformities in Rhinoplasty
BACKGROUND Filler materials are gaining popularity in nonsurgical rhinoplasty the major advantages are the ability to camouflage the surface deformities, and also the soft and malleable consistency while the major drawback of the safe fillers such as hyaluronic acid is short durability. In this study, we evaluated the injectable cartilage shaving as an autologous filler material for correction...
